I adore the sculptural quality and texture of African Juju hats, especially in creamy white! How fun is this little boy's room? via Adore Magazine. Purchase Juju hats here.

Shelter Loves

1/2/3/4/6/7

Here's what I'm eyeing this week! Links above

1. + 2 "love" sentiment inspired jewelry. Valentine or not, I love these pieces and may even just have to buy myself a Valentine's Day treat this year.

** Top Right Hand photo: Space for a mini design/magazine library would be such a bonus in my new office
3.  Phoebe Philo has great style. I love anything from Celine right now. This Celine bottle green bag is dreamy. I've always wanted an olive green bag, an heirloom piece is what I'll call it. ;)
4. Zoe Bios Creative - where art and design merge
5. I adore this cottage and the sweet landscaping!!
6. Mary McDonald for FSchumacher. I never tire of Chinoiserie!
7. Finial Love - adds life to any lamp!

Beauty Buzz

Hello, Hello!  Ugh, Do you all feel as yuck as I do this time of year?  I've had a cold for what feels like forever now and my work out schedule has been almost non-existent. I need to get back on track. It's high time for a bit of pampering this week to help beat the winter blues. Here's the run down on the shared shots.

1. I have a little museum date with a boy on Saturday afternoon and am also meeting up with various friends over the weekend. I want to buy a new gloss with a hint of pink to fluff up my lips before then. I may try this plumping Buxom in peach sorbet. I'm loving the look of that model's lips. Lucky lady.
2. I also have a trim and a highlight tomorrow. I'm showing the stylist Sienna's layered locks and color.
3. Ahh, got to love the top knot, both messy and chic versions work for me. My assistant whipped my hair up in about two seconds last week.. Now I need to figure out how to perfect it like she did. I always prefer my hair when someone else style's it.
4. What I wouldn't do for a spot like these to primp and prime in the a.m. On my wish list? A vanity with a gorgeous over sized mirror above it.

Cottage (well sort of) #7

Emma Reddington's home looks a bit more like a Brownstone then a cottage, but I thought it was "swoon" worthy of my cottage love series! It's a approachable, casual, chic and a bit off beat. Just how I like 'em....Plus I'm loving all things with a touch of cozy sheepskin or faux fur right now (I used a bit in my photo shoot last week)..must be the Arctic freeze we're still in. in the details...

Great design is all about the details.
My assistant Tera and I were looking at the December issue House Beautiful the other day. We both decided tortoise trim is fabulous. This trim is actually a piece of bamboo sliced in half and applied to the wall as a molding detail. Brilliant.
A architectural wood trim
Grosgrain ribbon is an inexpensive way to add interest. Time consuming but well worth it. I'd recommend trying this is a small entry or powder room.

Shelter Loves 1.24.13

One word for today, Burrr...
I wish I had a trip booked this winter but I'm saving my pennies for bigger things! If I were to jet away to a warm destination, first on my list would be Harbour Island. This balmy, pink sand beach, pretty with a hint of bohemian prep destination is calling my name right now. India has the right idea doesn't she? - Images 5 + 7

1. I've long wanted to create a gorgeous gallery wall much like Angie Hranowsky's. I love how the evolved looking style.
2. Want and need this monogrammed tote.
3.  33 Ways to stay creative!! I agree with them all.
4. Okay, I've pinned these Lulu Frost earrings a few times without remembering..You've done that too haven't you? I think it's time to take the plunge....do any of my readers own them? Are they heavy?
6. Brass Letters for my future art wall.
8. Anticipating Sheridan French's Spring colorful kaftan line. (would be perfect for my Harbour Island excursion)

Shades of green

I've been running around like cray cray today with a three year old in tow trying to pull some last minute details together for a photo shoot tomorrow. You probably look at the styled glossy magazines and the pretty pinterest shots almost as much as I do. I can tell you first hand it takes a LOT of work to get those perfect pics!

One of the perks of my job is to scan and analyze images almost daily and I've been thinking about and dog earring green chairs for years now. I think I'd have to go with Emerald, do you have a favorite? I may be silent tomorrow.. but promise to return Thursday with this week's favorites post..

How do you like your blue?

I spend part of every year living on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean in a small community in Newfoundland.  Being in such close proximity to the sea influences my colour interests.  It is no surprise that I like watery blue greens. These combinations show up in both of my homes and even in my art work.

Margaret Ryall, Slow Drift (2012)  6x8 in.  encaustic monotype on board

When you mix spring greens and  watery blues the result is always  fresh and lively. There are lots of patterns and textures in this room and the use of an old map as wall art references  land and sea.  Are you beginning to see how both of my careers dovetail?  Interior design and visual art feed each other on a daily basis in my life. Lots of times looking at a room will give me an idea of an art series!

This is lovely combination  inspired by the spectacular art work over the sofa.  The room is fresh and inviting and the plant adds to that vibrancy.  White, cream and the softest yellows  are the perfect foils for blue green combinations. If you would like to see more of this room check the link above.

Yellow brings out the best in aqua because there's yellow in its composition . The magenta area rug grounds the design, but for me it has to much energy for a bedroom.  I like my floors muted and just there. Do you like this combination?

A vibrant, casual  sun room in blues and greens.   Just the place to sit and have a cool drink with friends. The colour scheme helps to draw together the variety in furniture pieces. Don't be afraid to use what you have in a room and then  use colour to link the design together.  Matching furniture  is highly over rated!

Waverly Solar Flair Lime/Indigo

Look to fabrics for colour scheme inspiration.  Deeper blues can serve as a good grounding colour in a blue green scheme.  If you like painted furniture choose this colour for high impact . Deep blues are trending for 2013.

Or reverse your combination and use a striking aqua colour and support it with deep blue. Not everyone can live with this much pattern, but you don't have to.  Imagine this piece against  soft creams, charcoal or even purple!

How do you like your blue and what's your favourite combination?

As you can see I like mine with lots of yellow and leaning into green.  Check this fascinating survey to see how people feel about blue depending on sex and age.

Ski Bunny

1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9

I'm heading to VT with my kiddies to celebrate my daughter's 3rd birthday this weekend, I'm going to put them both in ski lessons and sneak in a few runs myself! Above are apres and ski essentials..Also, don't forget your helmet, they're safe, and warm!

Image 1. If I had a ski house you can bet it would resemble Aerin Lauder's Aspen Home as shown in Vogue Magazine.
My favorite part of skiing? The Apres ski at the lodge!

I stumbled across this ski chalet in Big Sky last week while searching for ski house inspiration. Images by photographer Audrey Hall.

Shelter Loves

My apologies for the late post. I was up and out by 6:20 a.m. and have been running around all day! Here are this weeks favorite picks. Clearly I'm channelling Spring cause there's a whole lotta pink on this board...

1. This Chloe weekend is perfection! I'd use it ALL the time.
2. Fresh, white and light grey spaces..plus I love the sofa details. I need to use this graphic on cushions soon. I think I have just the job for the detail!
3.  Pretty hampers all around!! How cute is this one.
4. I'm thinking I need a family crest designed by the Happy Menocal. And red foxes? yes please.
5. I'm adoring shoes with feminine bow details at the moment. Valentino pictured (out of my $ range right now but wanted to share none the less )
6. I'm often hard pressed to find a bar stool I like. This one? Gorge! via
7. Ahhh, the crafty things you I could do if there were a few more hours in the day. I love the idea of covering a tack board with a pretty print and brass tacks. via two twenty one

Lauren Santo Domingo in Paris

With travel and Paris (i'm only dreaming of travel this year, but in 2014 Paris will be at the top of my travel list) on the brain this week I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share Lauren Santo Domingo's Paris duplex. Elegant but chic it's the perfect example of how creamy white paint can look soooo good when the architecture shines...All image via Vogue. (of course)

Those Warren Platner lounge chairs are divine.
Wouldn't you just love to step out onto this terrace?

See me over at Sadie and Stella today!

Love the look

I never really know what I'll wake up inspired by...today it was Paris. I've been designing a space for a client with a pied de terre in Boston that has a sort of Parisian chic inspired concept. You also can't go wrong when wearing classic grey, cream and black tones with lots of texture and beautiful details. Plus that sweater is just adorbs....links below
