A must have vase

I'm in love with the Boblen  vase my new  neighbour gave me. Although we do not know each other well, she could not have chosen a more fitting gift.  I always have some version of fresh greenery or flowers in my home. The more I look at  this little gem the more ideas I get  for using it.

The Boblen line of vases, designed by famous Norwegian Florist and TV personality Finn Schjoll,

are expressive mouth blown vases  in clear glass in various sizes

 and colours.

Its design was inspired by water drops on a lily after the rain. The extended flat lip makes them especially conducive to wide floral designs....

or to highlight  a single blossom.

You can also put several vases of varying sizes together to create drama.

or float a flower in water in the bowl .

 source

or wrap a creeping vine under and around the lip.

You could also fill the bowl with candy, small glass ornaments, beach glass, berries, small blossoms, pepples etc.  and place a pillar candle on top.  An all around accent for your home that can always be on display.

Art Glass Vista  ships world wide.

Cottage Love #5

I'm back on track with my cottage posts. I've found yet another stunner. It's not overly modest in size but the photos shown are certainly not over the top (especially for a famous actress who obviously makes gobs of money, well relatively speaking). I'm obsessed with California, bungalow style (almost) everything. I love the ease of the rooms and the large windows, the wood ceilings and the casually chic details. I also envy the fact that the sun seems to shine for most of the year. I can't move to L.A. for a slew of reasons but I can dream and infuse a bit of southern California cool into my own house. (plus I'm sure I'd miss the charm of New England if I left) These are updated shots of Amanda Peet's home, it was recently featured in Vogue. I know all my equally design crazed readers remember the pics. in Domino Magazine. Enjoy! I'm actually off to AZ for a few days. Happy Weekend! Cheers till Monday.

love the look

I hope you're enjoying my new series "love the look" as much as I'm enjoying devising them for you!! I'm basically drawn to just about anything that's classic with an edge. Rooms, outfits, Men (ha) etc. etc.
I was inspired by the street scene picture, I love how the outfit is thrown off by the leopard. Below is a day and night version. (minus the leopard at night - if you're up for it, a small leopard clutch could work, but I envision it having a bit of a beaded detail)

Day : 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 * pixie or minnie pant from J.Crew pant are fab!

+

Evening: 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 * the pant looks much cuter on the model shot, check it out!

Bubbly Bar

Okay, stop me in my tracks! This styled bubbly bar was far too swoon worthy not to repost! It's over the top gorgeous and beautifully styled! And honesty right up my alley. (champagne, gold, sparkles and all) Pop over to 100 Layer cake blog for more yummy eye candy and the deets on the photo shoot, including all involved!! Damn I need to find a house so I can have a party!!!
ALSO ... came across this site I love their vintage and new bar accessories!

Erin Gates for Jill Rosenwald Collection

My good friend and fellow design blogger Erin Gates has collaborated with the talented ceramicist Jill Rosenwald on a stunning new collection. Erin was inspired by a pattern on a basket she owns of African origin. I love how graphic the print is! All the pieces, except for the lamps have a glamorous gold rim and are available in two different color ways, black/peony + j.crew/mint. Another benefit besides owning a beautiful piece of functional art? 15% of all the proceeds is going to be donated to the Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief! Gorgeous work ladies!   Please e-mail erin at: erin@eringatesdesign.com to place your order - they hope to have the collection up on Jill's e-commerce site very soon!

Inspired: Street Style to dining

Happy Almost December. 'Tis the season for entertaining so I thought an inspired dining post would be appropriate. When working with client's I'm inspired by both their lifestyle and the world around me. I love this "street style" photo. Her entire look is fabulous as is the architecture, the color palette and the array of textures and light. The furniture boards below show two versions of dining room ideas based on this image. I've come up with two visions, when you switch a few items out, the room can take on a new life. In option one the light fixture and rug are the dramatic features, in option two it's the deep smokey wall color that's moody and eye catching. I LOVE emerald green and those leather covered chairs are to die for! I always try to incorporate one of a kind objects into my designs. It is the key to devising rooms with depth and interest. I've linked all the items below each design. Cheers, I'm excited to kick off the holiday season this year!
